Have you ever wondered about the level of intelligence of those around you?
As a leader, I’m sure you’ve had that moment where you’ve looked at one of your staff members and wondered “what were they thinking” – or perhaps they were not thinking! We can all be ‘unintelligent’ in some areas and ‘highly intelligent’ in others. The head of Mensa once said, “It is amazing how stupid intelligent people can be!”
There are two main reasons:
- There are 4 fundamentally different human intelligences, and we are all naturally low in two of these.
- The level of our motivation is a key part of how our innate intelligence manifests. Often when we act “dumb” it is because we “can’t be bothered” – we are unmotivated. It’s not really about intelligence.
As a leader, once you understand this in more detail, you will be able to proactively boost your “leadership intelligence” and so maximise your team’s capability and drive performance and productivity to better profits.
