Up to 70% of employees who left companies stated that their boss was the main reason they chose to leave. The “lockdown experience” has significantly worsened the turnover situation. According to Microsoft’s 2021 World Trend Index: 45% of people feel overworked, 39% say they are exhausted and 40% are considering changing jobs in the next year!

Lack of leadership damages employees in surprising ways, with one study finding that working for a bad manager caused a 60 increase in the risk of heart attack for their employees. The research shows having a bad boss has the same negative health impact as smoking 20 cigarettes a day!

On the other hand, the good news is that about 30% of people reported they were staying and contributing because of good leadership (rather than good management).
