It would be a shame if good leadership meant we had to be charismatic, as charisma is not very trainable. If charisma was a significant component of leadership, much of the money put to leadership training would be wasted.

Businesses spend about US$50 billion on leadership development globally according to Harvard University, so leadership is clearly seen as critical to business success.

Fortunately, leadership is largely independent of charisma, meaning someone can be highly charismatic and a good leader, or highly charismatic and a poor leader. Others may have little charisma and be a good leader or have little charisma and be a poor leader.
