Summary of the UHM

The Universal Hierarchy Report is possibly the most comprehensive psychometric instrument in the field of typologies.  It is formed by ‘triangulating’ references from these seven major world typologies  which means that only 14 multiple choice questions are required to provide up to 50 pages of specific and personal in depth report.  The on-line questionnaire typically only takes about 20 minutes to complete.  While the UHM appears to be a simple set of hierarchical Levels at first sight, however, its power comes from its holographic nature as each Level is reflected in the other Levels in the group.  It is derived from patterns of response which identify the underlying strengths and development areas a person has. It provides insightful description of key aspects related to performance, including leadership style, values, stress response, level of optimism and hope, life meaning, level 5 leadership and even likely voting preference (whether Democrat/liberal or Republican/conservative!). For instance the UHM provides a theoretical basis to explain the empirical findings in Jim Collin's book - GOOD TO GREAT. It also evaluates preferences around the four fundamental intelligences: operational intelligence (linked to IQ), emotional intelligence (EQ), strategic intelligence and tactical intelligence.

'[UHM} one of the more valuable tools anyone could use to pursue this self awareness'  -

Tang Li Chow, HR Manager, Philips International

The UHM Report provides 180 degree feedback by getting responses from a reference person as well as the focus person. It has a very significant advantage over traditional 360 degree feedback questionnaires because the answers for each question in the UHM Report are equally good, and therefore it minimizes the inevitable halo affect with traditional 360 degree questionnaires (where respondents know how much they are 'crediting or debiting' the person they are reporting on).

Purpose of the UHM

The purpose of the UHM is to increase self-awareness and enhance self-leadership in order to improve the leadership example on this planet.

Modes of Answerng the UHM

Unlike most typological instruments, the UHM allows the respondent to choose how they wish to answer the questions - from a personal or a work perspective. The reference person is then prompted to answer in the same way. This provides flexibility on how this instrument is used in the workplace.

The report has a consistency check built into it.

Where an understanding of a person's underlying 'attitude' is required or an understanding of their perception of the world, then it is most effective to have the questions answered from a personal perspective.
