Background and Experience

Michael's qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland and a Master of Business Administration from Monash University. He is a Certified Professional, Australian Human Resources Institute. Michael is a Human Resource Management specialist who has practical experience in every aspect of HRM, gained in a number of different environments. The focus of much of Michael's experience has been on the design and implementation of competency systems and related assessment centres for selection and development purposes. He has had "hands on" involvement in the development and implementation of assessment centre applications in a variety of organizations.

Career Highlights

  • Managed the design and implementation of an assessment system for staffing a new automotive assembly plant for General Motors in Thailand
  • Led (as a member of a team) the implementation of an assessment centre aimed at informing development decisions for senior managers in Telstra
  • Facilitated assessment centre projects in a wide range of industries. Assessment results have been used as a platform for ongoing coaching for development
  • Designed and implemented comprehensive performance management systems in both public and private sector organizations
  • Developed, drafted and implemented HR management policies for public and private sector clients. These have included policies to link assessed performance to remuneration; job evaluation policies and practices; recruitment and selection policies and strategies; disciplinary policies; equal opportunity policies and strategies and redundancy policies
  • Michael has served as an officer, up to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, in the Australian Army Reserve, in command, staff and training postings and has long experience, at board level, of the leadership and management of a leading city club

Michael is one of Australia's most experienced leadership assessors and coaches, having personally evaluated and provided feedback to hundreds of senior managers and leaders. His extensive consulting experience includes working in both Australia and South East Asia, and covers global car manufacturers, international telecommunications, airlines, government and global banking.
