Background and Experience

Helen Canny is an organisation development and human resources specialist. With formative experience gained at AXA, Suncorp & Merrill Lynch across remuneration, management development & employee relations, her consulting career began at Towers Perrin, where she worked with clients such as NAB, Kemcor, Phillips, Swiss Reinsurance & Australia Post. From 1997 to 1999, Helen worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers where she was responsible for the firm-wide HR policies & programs for the Asia Pacific region & was a member of the global Merger Integration Team.

Helen enjoys the challenge & stimulation of working with clients to help them improve their organisations. Pragmatic, practical & energetic, she most enjoys working with people who are open to new ideas and want to make a difference.

Helen's consulting experience ranges across financial services, peak and industry bodies, state government, mining, logistics, sport, agriculture and professional services. She is also a member of the Australian Human Resources Institute, and full member of the Australian Association of Psychological Type

Career Highlights

  • Acting as a senior manager in a global bank's IT Operations division during a time of massive organisational change. Oversaw the restructure, reduced headcount and budget to target levels whilst building a cohesive culture and people development framework.
  • Advising the Victorian Department of Justice on a training strategy for the entire public service in readiness for the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities from 1 January 2007.
  • Coaching the Asia-Pacific senior executive team of a global logistics company during the rollout of a new people and change management strategy. During this time, the logistics facilities scored the highest rating world-wide on employee engagement.
  • Assisting a publicly-listed mining company to articulate their HR requirements, establish a General Manager role and appoint an incumbent. Acted in the GM, HR role for 4 months.
  • Conducting a study of paid parental leave practices on behalf of a global manufacturer and assisted them to articulate a comprehensive work/life strategy
